Position Summary:

The Automation Engineer serves as a support system for the company's manufacturing plants, specifically for the instrumentation and controls systems. This individual's responsibilities include troubleshooting, as well as the development of improved processes and preemptive measures to ensure that maintenance is consistent. To some extent, the Controls Engineer must also oversee contractors whose work may have an impact on the instrumentation or controls systems within the manufacturing plants.

The specific duties and responsibilities associated with this position will depend on the unique needs and priorities of the organization:

• Undertake proper analysis of industrial machinery and processes with knowledge, proper instruments, and sound reasoning ability to identify and address instrumentation and control issues
• Observe and analyze the operation of machines and equipment using diagnostic tools, including voltmeters and other equipment, to identify potential malfunctions
• Load centers, or distribution panels, are critical components in the electrical system. They distribute the electrical energy within the building and require careful attention to be installed correctly
• The calibration of process instruments, comprising temperature, pressure, flow, level, and composition measurement tools, as well as process controls, must be clearly understood by those who operate in this field
• Take advantage of software programs like FTView ME/SE, iFix, WonderWare, Ignition, etc. to manage, maintain and update HMI applications in order to keep them running smoothly.
• Troubleshooting VFDs and servo drives requires not only an understanding of the equipment but also knowledge of electrical circuits and motors
• Incorporate sophisticated equipment and instruments, such as oscilloscopes and network analyzers, into diagnostic testing procedures to identify and analyze technical issues affecting a variety of systems
• Emphasize the importance of regular equipment maintenance and cleaning to prevent breakdowns and ensure proper functioning
• Track all maintenance activities, including repairs and parts used, and request the purchase of new parts and materials as necessary to execute future repairs and maintenance tasks
• Maintaining open communication channels with all plant team members is essential in preventing potential misunderstandings and speeding up the troubleshooting and repair process
• Embrace a culture of continuous improvement by regularly reviewing and updating your cGMP processes and procedures
• The formulation, scheming, elaboration, memorializing, and aiding of the hardware, software, and systems applied in the control of manufacturing practices
• TPM also provides a framework for continuous improvement by fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration in the workplace
• Incorporating changes in the company's operations and processes can lead to improved efficiencies, increased productivity, and a more streamlined approach toward achieving business objectives
• Always report any issues that may cause operational disruptions to management, so they can take appropriate measures
• Safety should never be taken lightly in operations support and work execution. Prioritize safety requirements such as Arc Flash/Shock Hazard safety, confined space entry, LOTO, hazardous materials, and the appropriate use of hand tools to reduce the risk of incidents.
